Hotmail.com, the free e-mail service operated by Microsoft, provides a good-quality e-mail service at no cost. It is a default e-mail provider your Windows operating system would suggest using during its first start. But unfortunately, Hotmail forces you to read and write e-mail messages through your web browser, which seems to be not a very convenient way; and that’s because of Hotmal’s failure to support some common email transmission standards.
Unlike with its older «brother», with HotMail+, you can easily bypass the problem. HotMail+ looks like a standard e-mail program; it is designed specifically for interacting with the web-based Hotmail. It does all those boring «browsing» actions for you: downloads web pages, logs you in, and downloads e-mail messages to your computer, where you can navigate through them, read and reply to them.
HotMail+ is smart enough to download attached files also (and even to display pictures attached to message body.) On the top of that, HotMail+ provides a variety of options not common for every «normal» e-mail client; those include «mark messages as read on server», «download only headers», and «optionally delete messages from server».
