One of the coolest features about the old science fiction movies was space battle. Those naive but grandiose battlefields, thousands of different spaceships, huge asteroid-like battle-cruisers and small nimble fighters, explosion flashes and laser traces… Yes, those battles sometimes do return in the modern movies (for ex., the «new» Star Wars trilogy is quite a good one), but still they were born in 1980’s, with Star Trek and the first Star Wars.
