There are complex historical reasons, which have caused the situation, where some things possible theoretically, are impossible practically. Sorry for the hazy phrase; all I had to say is that I would want to have all programs in my computer to be like «Lego» things: If I like some piece, I can get it and use it; if I dislike some part, I can just throw it away. I’d want to have this possibility. And you know what? With Restorator, I actually have it!
Restorator is a not-so-complex, but SO-damn-useful piece of software, which allows you to view, extract and replace different «resources» in executable files (programs). The «resources» we are speaking of, include (but not limited to) different «pieces of art» typically existing in programs, like icons, cursors, sounds and so on. Moreover, some windows («dialogs») and menus are also stored in programs as «resources».
So, you have two major brilliant opportunities: First, you can take your favorite cursors, icons and pictures from other programs (there is even the possibility to search entire disk for all cursors in all programs); Second, you can «brand» virtually any program, make custom appearance, for the purpose of business or art; or, for example, add a localized version of it’s interface.
