emu8086 is a complete, and easy-to-use interactive system for studying assembler language. Being very low-level and simple, the assembler of 8086 AMD and Intel microprocessors is an excellent starting point for studying «how a computer thinks».
The software has an extremely usable code editor, a step-by-step debugger. It can also generate binary code just like Masm or Tasm. But really, it is not enough on a powerful processor. The emulator works in step-by-step mode, showing you all the insides such as, the register and memory values, stacks, variables, and flags. You can easily follow what the program actually does; step-by-step, byte-by-byte, bit-by-bit. Also, there are a number of animated virtual devices to play with, from standard hardware simulators (like printers or LED displays) to exotic «toy systems» (such as traffic lights or robots).
Any developer can extend the virtual device suite by adding his or her own creations. Moreover, there is also a virtual floppy drive, to which any «tiny operating system» can be easily written.
