If you have several (more than one :) movie DVDs, you possibly not contented by the standard DVD usage options your computer has. All you can normally do with YOUR disks is just view them. No copying, no backing up, no converting, no extraction of favorite moments… (Even if a disk has no protection on it, specific DVD formats and directory structures leave you without any idea of what to do with all this stuff).
Magic DVD Ripper just gives you all the desired actions about DVD disks, which in the better world should be accessible by design. In the familiar Magic DVD Ripper interface, you have the «source» (your DVD) and the «destination» (a folder in your computer), and a bunch of options for transferring data from the source to the destination.
First of all, you can just Backup your DVD (in other words, make a copy of the source information as-it-is, which is useful for further writing to another DVD), which also allows you some basic conversions (getting rid of extras, or splitting DVD9 to DVD5). But the most powerful is the Convert option, which allows you to select parts and fragments of the source film and convert them to a wide variety of target formats (including those for iPod or PSP), with the full control over bit-rates, resolutions and codecs.
