Unreal Media Server is an almost-universal highly-customizable media streaming solution. It can be used with the equal ease either inside a LAN or for the Internet, in an on-demand or live modes, with any level of interactivity and any media format.
On the server side, Unreal Media Server supports a huge multitude of media formats (for ex., sound: WMV, MP3, OGG, video: MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, Apple mp4 ), and no processor-consuming transcoding of media isnt required. As long as the client machine has the appropriate codec installed, media of any format can be received and displayed. Moreover, the software includes LiveServer, which allows the transferring of «live» data from various types of microphones and cameras, making Unreal Media Server well-suited for online conferences. The content can be transferred in the on-demand mode (user connects and receives some media from the very beginning), or multicast live mode (user connects and receives content from «current» place). The content can be streamed through TCP, HTTP/HTTPS or RTP Multicast protocols.
On user side, content streamed by Unreal Media Server can be viewed by a desktop client or in-browser with ActiveX or Firefox plug-in. Neither software saves received multimedia to user?s disk, so nobody can «steal» your streamed media.
