LanSurfer is a good enough solution for the well-known «large-LAN-search» problem. The software is characterized by a fast search engine, comprehensive feature set, and easy-to-use user interface.
LanSurfer offers all the features that are already a commonplace for this class of software: Views all the top-level folders shared on all network computers alongside with the public HTTP- and FTP-servers inside the LAN. Wildcard-based resource search is also available.
On the top of that, there are some features that are less common but are rather cool. For example, LanSurfer allows creating the so-called «filtered» resources lists; say, the «video» filter to display network shares with films and other video files. You can easily browse any resource you have found with the application you define (for example, you can define a custom file manager for browsing shares or a custom browser for viewing HTTP-resources). I must also say LanSurfer has a wide range of settings you can customize: Include or exclude IP ranges and resource types to or from search, set timeouts and threads, change the interface appearance:
