There are many ways for using other networked computer’s resources directly from your desktop. Among the most effective is the so-called iSCSI technology, which means the following. One computer («iSCSI server») exports its resources to the network, and the other computer («iSCSI client» or «iSCSI initiator») connects to those resources and uses them. Although it sounds a bit complicated, just follow me and see how simple that could be done with the *right* software like StarWind.
All you need to do is install the program and follow one easy, clean, and clear wizard, pointing the device you’d want to export. Those devices can include HDD, CD or DVD drives, Virtual CD/DVD (.iso file containing the disk image), the so-called Image File (non-formatted area on HDD treated as a disk) or even an area in the RAM (which also would be treated as a disk, but that disk will have the speed you couldn’t imagine before). As soon as you have completed those easy steps, any computer inside your network will be able to use the exported devices through any iSCSI initiator software.
The capabilities the software opens are as wide as, for instance, user can burn CDs using the remote CD-writers with that user’s favorite CD-burning software.
