A single file is the basic unit of information storage and exchange. Whether it is information exchange between Internet servers, or «information exchange» between two folders on your own computer, this process can be formalized and automated according to your own preferences. The excellent FoldMonkey software proves this statement.
What FoldMonkey does, it just sees any folder you wish as an «incoming», and all files appear there as «incoming objects to process». Therefore, with FoldMonkey you can setup simple or complex rules for processing newly appeared files in a folder (and its subfolders, if you want). Such «filter» has a target (a folder to observe and process), a condition (a file mask to apply actions) and a set of actions. «Incoming» files can be renamed at once, archived or sent to any external program for further processing. While renaming, FoldMonkey provides you with convenient «tags» (patterns in a file name), so, you can replace the file name with a date, or an autoincreasing counter, or even perform separate actions with some parts of the file name.
These abilities allow you to organize «magic» folders onto your computer, which in their turn automatically organize any information you’ve copied there. The same way you can organize some common folders in the local network, or even public upload folders on the Internet server.
