There is an image-compression standard named JPEG, which is quite good, but rather old. And there is a new, modern and progressive successor — JPEG2000. Respectively to JPEG, the new standard gives a smaller file size and better image quality, and some new possibilities, such as transparency and translucency (alpha-channel).
With J2K-Codec any developer can easily add JPEG2000 support to his/her application. If you are a game developer, or a screensaver developer, or your software needs to operate with multiple image formats — J2K-Codec is the easiest and the fastest way to support new format. While using this software component, you will need to write only 1 (one) line of code to decode any JPEG2000 image. Even if your program uses only a few images, you can think about using JEPG2000, which provides good image quality at very high compression rates (such as 80:1) and often has 25-35% smaller file size than old good JPEG (at comparable qualities).
