Some time, some day. The wish comes, which encourage to *change*. Change this standard environment, to make it more personal, more convenient, more *livable*. When that wish visits you, what would you change first and foremost (OK, after you’ve already changed desktop picture)? The answer is not the same for all of us. Someone would completely change the «windows manager», someone else would select a new mailer, launchbar or desktop widget… But have you ever thought of such a usual thing as Notepad? Yes, yes, right this «almost-no-feature» minimalistic software which treats you every time you need to edit the «plain-text» files. Are you satisfied with the standard Notepad? (I’d wonder whether there is a single person out there satisfied with this piece of software!)
OK, don’t growl! Let’s talk about something positive. SkimEdit. Almost as small as Notepad (hey! 32 Kbytes only!), but a lot more handy and fully-featured. All what is «so-so» in Notepad is «cool» in SkimEdit (any level of the undo, exit by Esc, keyboard shortcuts, large files support). Notepad doesn’t have a lot of the «must-have» features SkimEdit would offer. It would be worthy to highlight the toolbar and status bar, highlighting and transition of URL’s, basic highlighting of the HTML syntax, support of different encodings, and much more.
