Mono-a-Mono, If You Love the Clear Sound

Despite that vinyl discs and tapes often hold precious music masterpieces, the wear-out noise and clicks that usually accompany old records rather hurt an ear than give pleasure. And although it’s literally impossible to remove scratches and other signs of aging from vinyl and magnetic media, the digitized sound, taken off those discs, can produce a great result — noiseless compositions that actually please one’s ear.
The «magic wand» that makes the conversion is called Mono-a-Mono; as the name describes, the program grabs a junky sound and rips the noticeable noises out of it. The only nuance to be kept in mind is that the original sound to be cleared is to be digitized in stereo, i.e. be available on two identical tracks. The program will compare the signals in the two channels and suppress whatever is not on the both tracks. This allows getting rid of the majority of audible noise, and the rare spots where it couldn’t be cleared in full just give the record an extra piece of charm.
