Any database specialist knows how much his work effectiveness depends on the «right» tools. Of course, you can do database design, analysis, and query development «by hand». But wouldn’t visual «designers», SQL syntax highlighting, code auto-completion, and much more of advanced stuff make you happier and let you do your work faster?
Well, if you really want to be a fast and happy database professional, and if you use an Interbase or Firebird database engine, then Interbase/Firebird Development Studio from SQLLY Development is worthy of your special attention.
The SQL editor integrated in the application is the best I’ve ever seen (I’ve seen and used dozens, actually): Besides the usual syntax highlighting and slightly less usual intelligent code completion, the editor dynamically highlights errors (even the complex logic ones) and provides fully-featured refactoring (this seems to be the only SQL refactoring editor in the world). Other notable query-related features are visual planning and execution statistics.
I do not have enough space to describe all the Studio’s goodies (like database comparison with the automatic conversion script creation, administrator, performance monitor or maintenance tools), but I can’t make no mention of the visual Database Designer tool, which allows to design ER diagrams.
