Apache HTTP server is known to be the most popular, reliable, and modern Web server. The program?s only «defect» seems to be its ultimate unixoidism: despite its cross-platform nature, the Web server gets all of its settings through one huge «httpd.conf» file, and even if you need to change one sma-a-a-ll thing in the settings, you would still need to read through all 1000 lines of httpd.conf and much more of the documentation. This isn?t the way Windows works.
But you *can* bring the usability and «windows-ability» to Apache settings, if you use software like ApacheConf. The software provides usable and comprehensive GUI, where all Apache settings are presented in a very structured way; you can edit them or turn them on/off (comment/uncomment). The software also provides an advanced editor with syntax-highlighting and full documentation for each option to make editing the source of httpd.conf an easy job. You can even view and edit some secondary files, like error log and .htaccess files for each folder.
ApacheConf is «real-life-ready» solution: it knows how to start/stop Apache
(to apply changes immediately) on both local and remote computer; even a remote Apache on Novell or *nix machine can be managed with ApacheConf. It has tools to easily edit even the complex options (like directory lists) and to quickly test newly edited httpd.conf. | | | Learn more about ApacheConf… |
