SoundLeech: Save What You Hear

Saving streaming audio to disk is quite a challenging job: there’s simply no way to save an audio stream to a file, and the job would involve a helper utility, which would have to intercept all applications’ attempts to use the sound card, grab the sound, convert it to the required format and save the result to file — on the fly. The so-called «sound card emulators» that simply redirect the sound from applications onto themselves; however, there’s hardly an application on the market that would simply intercept the sound and save it to disk.

A great finding for the task is SoundLeech, which can capture the sound from applications directly and save that sound to disk. You can access the application’s commands by right-clicking on its icon by the system clock. When the leeching is enabled, the application switches to the monitoring mode, where it «listens» to the audio output. As soon as sound is detected, the program will popup a notification and save the sound to disk. — Just don’t forget to «tell» it where you want it to save your audios.

Later on, you can easily convert it to the necessary format and enjoy your favorite radio show, a famous person’s live speech or your VoIP conversation with a loved one — whenever, wherever, and however long you want to.

The software will run in just about any operating system, from Windows 2000 through the 64-bit Vista. And if the installer finds any components missing in your system, it will ask your permission to download them off the Net. So simple, so friendly, so hassle-free — hard to tell you’re accomplishing such a challenging task.
