When you attempt to run a corrupt or damaged file, you would normally get an error message. But sometimes you can launch a corrupt file without even noticing that — while traveling across the Net, the file is cached by numerous servers, where it could be intercepted, modified, and sent forward as if it was original. The same can happen to a text.
A forged text file could mislead you. A binary file could also carry viruses, Trojan horses, and other malicious code ready to steal your data or damage your PC. One of the ways to be sure of the authenticity of the file you are about to open is to check its checksum or hash. If the file is accompanied with an authentic checksum hash, you can easily calculate the checksum for the file you have downloaded and determine whether or not the file is corrupt.
Easy Hash Generator is an easy tool for calculating hash values. Friendly, with straight-forward user interface, it can calculate hashes over 130 hash algorithms, from Adler through XOR. Simply open the file or text you need to calculate a hash for, select the hashing algorithm and click Generate. That’s it! The application can handle files of any size, even over 4 gigs each. Generated hash values can be saved to CSV, HTML, SVF, MD5 or SHA1 files.
You don’t even have to install anything: Easy Hash can be run from a CD, flash or other removable media. Nevertheless, you can add the application to Explorer’s context menu, install it as a plugin for popular file managers and associate it with SVF, MD5 and SHA1 file types.
